Mission 1

Federalism

US & States Under the Articles of Confederation the central government was too weak to be effective and the states were too strong. The Constitution made a stronger central government, but when the Constitution was written great care was taken to preserve the individual states as well. The concept of more than one level of government having jurisdiction over the same territory is called Federalism. Federalism is supposed to keep the central government stong enough to efficiently run our country while leaving the states strong enough to take care of local needs. This division of power should keep the central government from becoming tyrranical.

Your mission is to follow the links and create a list of 5 exclusive powers the Federal government has, 5 exclusive powers the state governments have, and 5 concurrent powers that both the Federal and state governments share to turn in. Each power that you list will be worth 1 point for a total of 15 points.
